Refurbishment
Gosfield Cottage
This beautiful Grade II listed character cottage, nestled in the heart of the New Forest, urgently needed sympathetic structural repair for its decaying timber beams. We undertook a meticulous process of sourcing and installing new reclaimed oak beams and bricks, ensuring they closely matched the original materials in both appearance and structural integrity.
In addition, the underside of the balcony had to be re-lathed and plastered using traditional sand and lime methods, as it would have been when the building was first constructed. The rear of the herringbone brickwork panels also required lime rendering to maintain authenticity.
Due to the cottage's listed status, our client instructed that no power tools could be used, making this restoration a unique and challenging project for our team. After much thoughtful planning and discussion, our talented bricklayers skillfully recreated the intricate herringbone brickwork panels, a defining feature of the cottage.
